Hi, I’m Gwenllian the founder of Siop Gacennau Gwen / Gwen’s Cake shop.
I have been running my business since I was 14, making cakes for friends and family and eventually paying customers. In the last 3 years my business has grown and resulted in opening a shop in Tregaron where I am currently producing and selling my cakes.
The love of baking started quite young by watching my grandmothers baking cakes while we visited and eventually got involved in the baking with them. This made me interested in food in general, and then I ended up attending the local college Coleg Ceredigion in Aberystwyth studying Professional Cookery.
Still making cakes at home I then went on to work at a cafe in Lampeter as a front of house member of staff and then moved into the kitchen as the chef for a few years. After finishing at Coleg Ceredigion I attended an evening class for a year at Coleg Sir Gar, studying Cake Decorating to increase my knowledge and experience.
After a lot of consideration I wanted to try out a new venture and moved on to work at a local bakery based in Lampeter, who specialised in sourdough bread and pastries. I worked at this company for a few years and then eventually my cake business was growing and ended up leaving the bakery – and jumped right in the deep end and opened a cake shop at the town I grew up in Tregaron.
I have since moved premesis due to the business expanding and needing more space for baking and prepping. I now have a coffee shop/cake shop where people can see me baking throughout the day, buy cakes and enjoy a relaxed coffee.
